Cuba - Province of Pinar Del Rio - Viņales
Our hosts in Viņales are waiting for us at the bus station with our names on a sign. They are not the only one there waiting for their "guests". Many families that operate a Casa Particulare are waiting for their arriving customers at the bus station. It is our host in Havana who gave us the contact. All along our travel in Cuba, we always asked a current host for a suggested host in our next destination. It took us three hours from Havana to Viņales by bus.
In Viņales, we have never seen so much variety of plantation in a single walk. We took a five hour guided walk across the fields with a local. We will learn a lot on the growing of tobacco, corn, beans, cabbage, pineapple, cofee, guayabas, grapefruit, sugar cane, rice and even more. We will see each of the products growing in their respective fields. Temperature was perfect for a long walk but a little cold for a room with no heating system. Without any thermometer, we would say that it was around 10-15 degrees C.
An other attraction around town is the Cueva San Miguel. By night, you might want to come back to Viņales to enjoy a live music show at the Centro Cultural Polo Montaņez.
